Here’s some more information about each of the photos below, in order:
Arkadi Monastery, Crete, Greece: I was walking around this 500 year old monastery and everyone was taking photos of the courtyards, the front facade, and the trees. I turned around and saw this incredible stone doorway radiating orange light that everyone seemed to be ignoring! It was my favorite view in the whole building.
Lauterbrunnen Valley, Switzerland: Definitely the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited. This valley in the Bernese Oberland in central Switzerland has more than 70 waterfalls and some of the most scenic hiking I’ve ever seen in my life. Highly recommended! You can stay at little hotels in the valley or on the edges in Murren or Wengen.
Jungfraujoch: A view above the clouds with not a person or building in sight! I shot this at an elevation of about 3300m above Lauterbrunnen. A word to the wise: avoid my mistakes and wear something warmer than shorts when you’re hiking on a glacier.
Trinity College Library, Dublin, Ireland: A tip for aspiring photographers - if there are too many people in your shot, try looking up! I shot this one in the 500 year old library at Trinity College. In addition to being a beautiful room, this library also houses one of the oldest printed books in existence, the 9th century Book of Kells.
Laggan Dam, Scotland: Believe it or not this mysterious little stone building is just a maintenance building atop a dam in the Scottish Highlands near Cairngorms National Park. We stopped there on the long drive from Skye to Edinburgh and got lucky with some dramatic clouds.
Stoos, Switzerland: I hiked Fronalpstock at Stoos soon after arriving in Zurich. Incredible views and very easy access from the city.
Porto, Portugal: As soon as I saw this alleyway by the river in Porto, Portugal I knew I had to shoot it to catch the contrast of the sky, the blue door, and the orange buildings. It’s actually a pretty crowded street so I had to stand there for close to 40 minutes before I got a chance with no people and good light!
Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Kyoto, Japan: A must if you’re in Kyoto.
Porto, Portugal: This is a sunset view of Porto from Vila Nova de Gaia, a tiny city across the river from Porto where all of the port wineries store and age their wines.
